I didn't know what to expect from Amsterdam as I've never visited Holland before, but after 3 days spent in this beautiful city I know I'd love to come back there any time soon.
As I'm staying in Paris for 2 week, we decided to drive from here to Amsterdam, what took us over 5 hours. I was lucky enough to be able to sleep for most of the trip, so as soon we reached our Airbnb flat, we left it almost straight away.
Amsterdam surprised me with an easy, relaxed atmosphere, amazing food and beautiful architecture. Walking around the city it's a pure pleasure, as Amsterdam is made of small charming streets, full of shops, bars and restaurants. I realized how big cycling culture is there, as you can see bikes and bikers absolutely everywhere: parked in the most random places or on the move.
Amsterdam is definitely a foodie's heaven and what's obvious, we were eating most of the time. On literally every corner of the city, you can find cafes which offers variety of sweets: from ice cream and cakes to waffles with every desired topping. If talking about proper food I'd definitely recommend 2 places. The first one it's a typical, traditional restaurant called Haesje Claes. This place had everything what Dutch inn should have: wooden interiors, old paintings, red carpets, cozy atmosphere and satiating food (which was great). Most positions in the menu include meat, so be prepared for a little feast. We all choose starter and main course, and it was more than enough. It's a definitely a must for those who want to feel real spirit of Holland.
A number two on my list it's an Argentinian restaurant called Luna placed next to charming market and surrounded by couple of nice vintage shops. Again, great steaks, great wine and great service.
When in Amsterdam, you have to at least visit some of the coffeeshops. According to my companions (personally I'm drug free) best space cakes can be find in Rockland (blueberry flavoured muffins) and best priced weed in chains of coffeeshops called The Bulldog.
Atmosphere there is nice and friendly and it took me couple of minutes to get use to the fact that actually everyone around me rolls and smokes huge joints.
To sum up, Amsterdam is the city for everyone: from chasing amusements youngsters, to foodies and art lovers. Atmosphere of the city surrounded canals, boats, bridges and bikes is quite unique and it's so much fun to just simply walk around and discover new corners and spots.
